If you will come in a big town as Rome for short, 1 day vacation, it is suitable to have in advance a clear idea about how you would like to spend this day. As “Romans” we have thought to give you information about museums, restaurants and shops in Rome to enjoy a pleasant day without waste precious time.
Museums to visit
During your short vacation in Rome, without doubt, the Vatican Museums are not to loose, unique, humanity wealth for its artistic collection. Here you can discover the Cappella Sistina secrets with Michelangelo’s mural paintings about Genesis and Final Universal Judgement. Furthermore, you will visit the Branched Candlestick Gallery as those ones of Tapestries, Geographic Maps and Raffaello’s rooms. Please, remember that these Museums are closed on Sunday excepting the last Sunday of the month during which there is free entrance (in this case we suggest you to begin to line you up early in the morning.).
During your 1 day holidays in Rome, we suggest you to visit the Quirinale Stables to admire both the Palace and Expositions on course. The stables have been built from the 1722 to 1732 delimiting the wide space of Quirinale Square, in which different architectural buildings are admirable for style and period. The Palace, which originally was used to recover carriages and horses, has been given to the Municipality of Roma to be used as a centre for exposition events.
If you are getting through Villa Borghese, you cannot loose to visit the Museum and Borghese Gallery. The more important heart of the sculptures and of the pictures is dated up to the collecting period of Cardinal Scipione who will search with passion for ancient sculptures promoting also the creation of new works and marbles collections. In this Palace you will admire – among the others-, some pictures of Caravaggio, the portrait of Paolina Bonaparte Borghese executed by Canova, the Deposition of Raffaello and the very important Danae of Correggio as also Bernini’s sculptures.
Where eating?
If your short vacations will allow enough time to visit the characteristic area in Trastevere, you can take a stop for lunch or dinner going to the Casetta di Trastevere, a restaurant opened every day, reserved but very comfortable with an external terrace that faces on a nice square. The menu offers very good, roman typical and traditional cuisine which can meet every taste. Everything is cooked on barbecue, with very special receipts of fish and meat.
If you would like to eat in a historical place of Rome you can choose also La Carbonara where the Roman gourmets make rendezvous. During the 1930’s the boys of Via Panisperna, the physicians group of Enrico Fermi. Today is an encounter point for youth and Vip. Here you can taste the genuine, good, cooking of lost times owning to a true Rome, which loves hard tastes. Please, remind that the Restaurant is closed on Sunday. Instead, if you are on foot along Via Veneto, one of the most famous streets of the town, you can stop to the Restaurant The Peperone. It is in front of an enchanted setting made of streets planted with trees, luxury hotels and ancient monuments. It represents a good occasion to taste good cuisine, to have a speed mail in traffic Hours or to taste an aperitif while you are taking a walk.

If you would like to buy books, CDS, or movies while you are walking in Rome streets, we can give you some tips: you can reach Messaggerie Musicali, in Via del Corso. It is a centre of attraction spreading fashions, trends and musical tastes.
